UNIVERSITY INTERVIEW

ME, PORTFOLIO AND A SQUINT

So today was my interview at Falmouth University and i had great expectations for the University and the town itself. However I can only say I was merely disappointed with Falmouth in gerenal. At first i was pretty taken back by how beautiful everywhere was and how hilly it is too - barely seen any hills down in the Cambs, well there's like literally none- so although it's beautiful and on the coast i didn't feel that it would keep me entertained for the three years that I'm on the course. The course itself was great as well as the facilities and the staff but if im going to commit to a course I think the obvious thoughts are that you want to feel like you would feel at home constantly, but I don't think it would. It reminded me of the days of when i used to live abroad minutes from the beach, it seems all idyllic at first but once you've spent quite a while there it gets ever so mundane and saying all this i can only see myself soon after arriving after exploring everywhere and thinking what next?

So settling on the idea that i don't think Falmouth is going to be my cup of tea I'm going to focus on my city based universities that I've planned for, if any of you are like me and like an adventure and to explore I'm pretty sure living one of our nations biggest cities would be well suited to that; plus I've never lived in the city so that's right up my street. I like change and new things happening to me so the city I would gather could offering that in terms of excitement and not meaning i have this lack of interest.

Enough about rabbiting on about all that nonsense at least the actual interview went well apart from the grilling which i totally wasn't expected, I turned into a right jittery mess a big bag of nerves. The interviewer lady person thingy head of the course person asked me about historical artists of which I could reference  and why they have influenced me and what differences does my work have to theirs. Well firstly.. I take photos and secondly, I don't know I'm no intellect, calm down with your on the spot trip me up type of questions, all such jargon to me, yadda yadda yadda. Anyway if anyone has any type of response to her question feel free to tell me because I haven't got a clue; I can take an alright photo, maybe draw a pretty alright nude but don't come flying at me with something about history and context, that is one lesson I by far visit land of nod the most in.

Best thing about today was that Fearne Cotton wished me luck live on Radio One which was pretty neat and turned me into a giddy mess for quite some time. Just the fact she called me a darling live to the nation sent me sky high. I'm going to have to find it and link it for sure, definitely down in my list of achievements (fail).

Journey down south

So today i've travelled down to the south of England down to Somerset to stay with my  Aunty Gail for the night before eventually setting off tomorrow morning to go to Falmouth for my first university interview. I've got my portfolio ready and I'm a sack of nerves but no doubt I'll be fine when it comes to that time; I'm The Masterblagger as all my college friends call me, blag myself out of any sticky situation.

We left early this morning and took Sammie to my Granddads with Bebo, so at least he has someone to play with an exhaust him as I'm not there to fulfil my duties. Pretty sad leaving him but shan't be long til we get back, just another eight hour car journey on Thursday and I'll be home. Hopefully this time it'll go a tad smoother with the journey and lack of crazed southern drivers on the road. Swear down, no joke and no offence to any Southerners but I'm sure you're all on crack; you're all mad on the road, barely made it here alive but in one massive nervous wreck, me and my ma in out tank thought we were going to end up as a tin can or something.

Anyhow's we've arrived at my aunties in Evercreech down in Somerset which is about half way to where my interveiw is at which means the rest of the journey has got to be made tomorrow. Mum got in - chatted to the family whereas I got here and went straight to the garden and played fetch with Holly- funny how I'm more comfortable around the dogs than I am people? Think I'm hinting at myself something - beasty. Oh and yes, of course, that's Crunchie.. I think i may have fallen in love for the first time. Too adorable and I'm totally going to snatch her.

Life portraits - Ric Keyworth

Ric Keyworth - from Peterborough

This is a portrait of Ric Keyworth that i took earlier on today with fellow photographer, friend and rival Ruth Jones. We met this intriguing gentleman on the streets of Peterborough today whilst in search of the sitters for our portrait session we were completing today. We got to know Ric more in depth and started to really enjoy his company and getting to know all about him, it's been key to creating some beautiful portraits of him.

Lesson leant
He said himself that looking into somebody's eye can be like looking into a completely different person to the person you see before yourself; and that's a great lesson I've began learning about people from practising in my photography. We all judge people by their appearance and with no expection I of course can admit I do generally perceive people to be a certain way based on the way they look before getting to know the real person like most of our generation do. Ric was one of the most kind hearted men I've photographed and spoken to, he seemed genuinely interested and invested in the portraits we were creating.

There are many more to come from this series so I shall have to keep you all up to date with how things are going. I am going to possibly try to get some more work published at some point in the near future which will be rather exciting; you all best buy whatever if I ever do though! frame it and hang it in your lavatory: I'd be chuffed to bits with that.
